Win a double pass to Splice in cinemas August 12th

SPLICE is a sexy, fantasy sci-fi thriller directed by Vincenzo Natali who brought us 1997’s cult sci-fi classic, CUBE.

Clive (ADRIEN BRODY) and Elsa (SARAH POLLEY) are scientist superstars, famous for splicing DNA from different animals to create bizarre hybrids. They are as in love with each other as they are with their work. And they want to go the next step: splice animal and human DNA. But when their corporate financiers refuse, they decide to experiment in secret. The result is Dren: an amazing creature whose rapid life cycle takes her from baby to adult in a matter of months. As Clive and Elsa struggle to keep Dren a secret, their connection to their creation evolves from scientific to personal.

Ultimately, Dren exceeds the couple’s wildest dreams – and their most terrifying nightmares.

REC Wednesday 4th August at 1000 Pound Bend Melbourne

Spain is receiving a lot of attention at the moment for the high quality horror films they are producing, and REC is one of their finest.  If you haven't seen REC I am hoping you have not seen Quarantine, the watered down American version made after REC's initial success.

REC is a found footage film set in a locked down apartment complex while an infection is starting to spread through the occupants.  It is well written, convincingly acted and really creepy.

The Melbourne Horror Film Society will be screening this on the 4th of August at 361 Little Lonsdale St, Melbourne.

Joe Dante in Conversation Saturday 31st July 3pm at the Forum Theatre

As part of the Melbourne International Film Festival Joe Dante the director of such films as The Howling, Piranha, Gremlins 1 and 2 as well as "It's a good life" in the Twilight Zone movie will be having a live conversation with D'Agnello Vallan.

In 2008 as part of MIFF Vallan presented a similar sell out conversation with George A Romero which I can personally say was fantastic.
